When people talk about planning, do you tend to have the thought, “Why create a plan, it’s only going to change”?
Or do you have this thought, which is the real resistance? “If I create a plan and it doesn’t happen then I will have failed.”
If so, take a deep breath! You’re not alone, and I’ve taken on the challenge of shifting this paradigm for you through this article.
The above scenario is common among adventurous entrepreneurs and free spirits who embrace the “live in the moment” mindset. After all, there is a lot of truth to the famed quote by Allen Saunders, often misattributed to John Lennon:
Yes. Life is unpredictable, and can often knock us off center. But that is precisely why we must be clear – clear enough to put it in writing – our vision of what we intend to create.
Something shifts when you take the time to plan something on paper. It forces you to get specific about how you’re going to get from here to where you want to go, and when you get specific, you are challenged to take concrete actions in real time, in the real world.
It’s a critical step in getting your dream out of your head and heart and grounding it in physical reality.
“A goal without a plan is just a wish.”
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
And another thing I’ve found is that when you have a written plan, you can actually relax into the flow of Life. It sounds paradoxical, but it actually frees you, because you’ve thought things through. And if Life throws you a curve ball, you are much better equipped to come up with an alternative strategy to handle it.
I know most Law of Attraction gurus tell you not to worry about the how, but this is very misleading. It is true that life is unpredictable and we must not be attached to our plans, because it can exclude that magical element of synchronicity and the mysterious force we often call Grace from supporting us, but it is very important for us to utilize all our inner resources to achieve our dreams.
We must understand that the whole purpose of going for your dreams is to grow as a human being – to unfold your potential so you can live at your highest expression you are capable of.
So at Visionary Yoga, we teach a balanced approach that utilizes the visionary capacity of your right brain and the strategic genius of your left brain. The key is to do just the right amount what I call “energy priming” – the visualizations and affirmations and other subtle practices, and back it up with solid, real-world actions on a consistent basis toward your goals and dreams.
People often think of Yoga as a “spiritual” path, which they think of as something you do in the privacy of your meditation cushion or yoga mat, and is mostly divorced from the practical domains of life, such as work, business, money or relationships.
But Yoga is actually an eminently practical approach to cultivate your highest expression as human beings in every domain of life.
We can take the deeper connection to ourselves that we cultivate through our physical body, breath
